W. Smith is the top male artist in Christian music. He's sold more than 6
million albums, runs his own record label and sells more concert tickets
that many mainstream pop stars who are household names.
Smith is one of few Christian-music artists who has crossed over to the pop charts - most notably with his 1991 hit single, "Place in This World" - and he's the only one to make People Magazine's "50 Most Beautiful People" list. Although he's 40 and a family man with five kids, Smith is something of a pop idol, with his spiky, blond-streaked hair and ever-present five o'clock shadow, a la George Michael. In his songs, he comes off as a sensitive, vulnerable guy who has faith but not all the answers.
